People make mistakes. People do dumb things. People are selfish and inconsiderate. People are imperfect.
It’s when that imperfection is highlighted so starkly from people who are elevated by marketing and media to near perfection that we tend to recoil with even more shock and indignation. Countless politicians know that. Movie stars know that. And now Tiger Woods knows that.
The question is how do you move past it and reclaim some of the sheen lost in a scandal? One approach is through contrition and humility. Tiger Woods has apologized to his fans, his sponsors, and presumably to his family. So now comes the humility…with a little help from Nike by way of a new commercial called “Earl and Tiger’ set to air during this week’s Masters tournament.
